The Venue …
Casa de Amistad is an enchanting guesthouse that we chose for its cozy charm and eco-conscious ethos. It is in the heart of Isabel Segunda, an authentic Puerto Rican pueblo with wonderful local culture, food, and character. We know you will feel at peace and smile as you wake up to hear the songs of tropical birds and see the lush flora around you. It is a place where friendships blossom and memories are created.
Owners Mike and John are transplanted New Yorkers who discovered Casa de Amistad many years ago as guests. It is the place to rest, rejuvenate, and restore yourself.

Why Vieques?
There is a laid-back atmosphere in Vieques, a smaller, less developed island than some of its neighbors. It’s a perfect place to escape the busyness of everyday life, relax & finally take the time to be with yourself & like-minded people to look inward.
Vieques is easy to get to. There are many direct flights from the US mainland to San Juan, regular flights from San Juan to the island, and ferry services from Ceiba to Vieques. It’s a U.S. territory, so no passport or international phone plan is required for U.S. citizens.
Isla de Vieques, just off the coast of Puerto Rico, is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Its beaches have crystal-clear waters, powdery white sand, and stunning sunsets.
It has the most significant natural wildlife refuge & wild horse population in the Caribbean. Connect to your natural potential for freedom & ease as you watch the horses roaming free.

Cuisine ... Come Feed Your Soul
Our personal Chef, Vicente’s expertly crafted Welcome Dinner, lunches, and Farewell Dinner will comfort and satisfy you. From wild-caught seafood dishes bursting with freshness to mouthwatering vegetarian options, every meal is a celebration of flavor and creativity that makes you slow down and get present to life’s everyday wonders.
Imagine yourself contently closing your eyes, taking a deep breath and slowly savoring the new aromas and enticing flavors.
Amistad’s daily nutritious continental breakfasts provide energy for your day’s activities. Your eyes open wide with delight, greeted with an array of coffee, tea, fresh juices, a variety of milks and fresh fruits - pineapple, mango, papaya, apples, pears, bananas - fresh local breads and pastries with butter and jams, hardboiled eggs, yogurt & granola, and cereal!
Plus, our neighborhood of Isabel II is home to the most extensive variety of restaurants, bars, and local panaderias on the island, which you can explore independently.
Our approach
Our collaborative ventures and expressive outlets are designed to inspire self-awareness and acceptance inside a collective spirit. Your commitment to providing compassion and guidance to your clients - and yourself - is strengthened. Passion gets reawakened and fuels dedication. Throughout the retreat, you experience how creative expression, internal work and communal sharing support you in letting go of fears and concerns that have blocked you.
Focusing on fostering trust, connection, and effective teamwork, our carefully designed program ignites a renewed sense of purpose, reminding you of the profound impact your work has on the lives of those navigating the challenges of divorce.
Day 1: Arrival
You begin to experience the calming effect of island life as you arrive at Casa de Amistad. In your heart, you know it’s time for a breakthrough. Those subtle (or loud!) limiting thoughts & beliefs, patterns in your actions, and old stuck emotions in your heart start to loosen their hold.
*******************************
Our Welcome Dinner promises a taste of genuine Puerto Rican cuisine thoughtfully prepared by the talented Chef Vicente. You delight in the vibrant flavors of Asopao (Louise’s favorite), a rich traditional stew of chicken thighs, rice, green olives adobo seasoning, and homemade sangria that goes down so quickly. Decadent cheesecake brings our delicious dinner to a close.
*********************************
Feel free to gaze at the starlit sky from our rooftop or stroll through the charming town plaza, soaking in the tranquil ambiance. It’s the perfect way to unwind and eagerly anticipate the enriching experiences that await you throughout the week.
Day 2: Shed Limiting Beliefs
A quiet early morning walk on the beach will start your day. Through specific exercises this morning you will begin to identify and let go of limiting beliefs and open the space for self-discovery and acceptance. In the afternoon, we continue this exploration through a potent activity that enables you to recognize the parts and voices you embody and express. This work will be the foundation for the rest of the retreat.
We understand your unique challenges and are committed to supporting you every step of the way. Allow yourself to be gently guided toward releasing the self-imposed barriers that have held you back so that you naturally step into your full potential.
There will be time for journaling during the day and dinner in town. Our evening will conclude with a sharing circle.
Fun and Creative Expression
Allow yourself to let go and see your innate creativity emerge. You will be surprised by what shows up in individual and group projects. These activities are designed not only to provide insights but to generate new and natural ways of being that will be the source of newfound power, freedom, and self-expression.
Day 3: Awakening
After the beach walk, there will be a morning session that includes a discussion of the human responses to stress, pain, and grief - in ourselves and our clients. As we continue to understand our various parts and their reactions, we integrate this knowledge into the divorce process through role play.
You will have time to relax, schedule a spa activity, or explore Isabel II before our driver, Angie, takes us across the island in the late afternoon to explore Esperanza and have a bite to eat on your own.
Our creative exploration takes a surreal turn tonight as we navigate the ethereal realms of a bioluminescent bay, floating by boat on the shimmering surface while delving into the polarities of light and dark within. The beauty of self-discovery harmonizes with the challenges of divorce, fostering a deeper connection to your innate capacity for empathy, understanding and healing.
Day 4: Renew Your Commitment
Today, we embark on a symbolic pilgrimage to the ancient Ceiba Tree, a living testament to resilience and hope. First, enjoy an open morning and lunch on your own until we leave in the late afternoon to the Mother Tree.
As you lean against the ancient Ceiba tree, you feel calm, nurtured and safe in her embrace. You soak up her wisdom and comfort, feeling inspired and rejuvenated, secure in your beliefs and abilities, and ready for more discovery. There will be a chance for a dip into the aqua blue ocean and then we will return for a relaxing dinner on your own until we gather again for sharing later tonight.
Day 5: Spark Creative Energy
This morning’s activities will give you access to uncovering what really matters as we take a deep dive into biases and assumptions. You see what may underlie your reactions and experience yourself in a new way.
,A satisfying lunch of fruit salad, a power bowl salad and mixed tropical fruit juices provides sustenance for heading out to one of the island’s magical beaches. The video is the beach we will probably visit. We’ll explore the challenges of being open and trusting as we play around with the experience of teamwork AND still have time to relax.
Day 6 - Advancing - Reignite Enthusiasm and Passion
On our final day together, take the morning to relax and enjoy lunch at your leisure, while you consolidate the lessons of the week. We reconvene for our concluding session where you learn how you can sustain and expand the work you’ve started, empowering you to stay true to your core values and professional passions.
Our Farewell Dinner features an exquisite meal crafted by Chef Vicente, who will delight us with piña coladas and culinary creations made from fresh local ingredients. We’ll share a meal of local favorites - grouper (mero), served with Puerto Rican seasoned rice, tropical purple slaw, and traditional FLAN - and engage in sparkling conversation, exchange funny stories, and reflect on the meaningful insights you've gained throughout the retreat.
Integration & Lasting Impact
Armed with newfound understanding, you now inspire open and authentic communication wherever you go. You emerge from the Vieques retreat empowered by your ability to navigate challenging interactions with grace and wisdom.
You are now a beacon of light, guiding others towards deeper understanding and connection. As you bid farewell to each other and return to work, you carry with you renewed enthusiasm, purpose, and experience of community. With every interaction, you inspire others to embrace vulnerability, authenticity, and genuine human connection. You now breathe new life into your work and your life.
By the end of your time with us, you gain the capacity to truly listen and empathize with others, so you can return to work and life confident in your abilities.
What You Will Walk Away With…
Can you feel how empowering it would be to inspire others to be able to truly hear one another?
On this retreat, through role plays in collaboration with people with the same interests, you learn more about your automatic triggers, reactions, and patterns, as well as those of others, so that you can master the art of difficult conversations with clients, colleagues and participants. You will gain the capacity to truly listen and empathize with others, so you can go back to work confident in your ability to inspire open and authentic communication.
Wouldn’t it feel great to remember why you were doing this work in the first place?
The retreat provides time and space to tune inward and engage in activities that enhance self-awareness and acceptance. You reconnect with your values and commitments and revive the interests and passion that you felt when you first began your work.
Imagine feeling passionate, optimistic and satisfied in your work again.
This transformative journey is designed to evoke a profound introspection into all the parts of your being that influence your work with people navigating the complexities of divorce. Through internal work and communal sharing, you will let go of fears and concerns that get in your way, recover your passion, and once again feel satisfied in your work.
You’ll go home self-aware, confident, passionate, accepting, satisfied and free in your work and your life.

Meet Louise R. Zito, Esq.
My latest story begins in 2020 when I decided to retire as a full-time attorney mediator and collaborative divorce professional: that’s a mouthful…
Previous “careers” included theatre, mime, period dance, costuming, boutique wine importing and teaching mime and theatre arts. I moved to Puerto Rico in 2021. I stopped practicing law in 2022 and started to reinvent myself. I continued to train mediators and conduct advance trainings in mediation and collaborative divorce, but something was missing.
I found that I was incorporating theatre and movement techniques into my trainings and seeing parallels between mediation, theatre, mime and meditation. I also found that I had more time for reflection about things that bothered me: why does a process fail? And, things that pleased me: thinking out loud with like-minded people.
I wanted to expand on these discoveries and during a conversation in 2022 with my friend Beth, one or both of us said, let’s hold a retreat for divorce professionals looking for rejuvenation and/or their next life adventure!
We agreed that Puerto Rico would be the perfect place: naturally beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly imperfect.
Beth brought Linda to the team and here we are.
Meet Beth M. Karassik, Ph.D.
I am so excited to be creating this retreat and growing Calma Collective! In the last 3.5 years I experienced a series of deaths in my very immediate family AND I also turned 65. Quite automatically, and also with conscious thought, I paused to consider my life and what’s left of it … how I wanted the next 20 or 30 or 40 years to look.
Calma Collective combines my commitment to making a difference for people with my knowledge and experience as a neuropsychologist AND my love of travel!
Louise and I worked together as co-mediators and on collaborative divorce teams and became trusted friends. We started scouting locations for a retreat in Puerto Rico after Louise settled there in semi-retirement. Then the deaths I mentioned came and kept me from that planning for awhile. Now my light is relit!
Linda and I have known each other for many years. We met at an advanced leadership course and continued weekly phone calls. She is a talented artist and art psychotherapist, who has led many transformational workshops and trainings. She loved the idea of joining our team and her contributions bring our Vieques Retreat to a whole other level!

Meet Linda Turner, LCAT, LPAT
As long as I can remember I have been passionate about making art and making a difference in the lives of others. Back in junior high, I would sit for hours and create, and began doing volunteer work soon after college.
After a wonderful 18 year career in the world of design and volunteering on the side, it was time to integrate my two loves into one career; got my Master’s and became an art psychotherapist. I have never looked back.
For ten years I worked for NFP’s in a variety of roles including clinician, project manager, clinical supervisor, group leader and workshop facilitator - all youth focused. I have now spent the last 13 years in a NYC based private practice working with adults, and when I can, facilitating arts based workshops. And I have a robust mixed media art practice that is a constant source of joy.
Beth and I met in a course many years ago and along with building a close friendship, we have held each other accountable not only in having dreams but living into them. When Beth told me about this project and invited me to be a part, I jumped at the chance. And here we are today.
